Darin Kimble is “Old School Hockey”

Love it or leave it, “Old Time Hockey” happened. I would assume by your presence on publish.hockeyfights.com that you love it. Just as I loved talking to “Old Time Hockey” personified, Darin Kimble on Episode 130 of “The Biscuit”

LISTEN TO THE EPISODE HERE

With 284 fights and over 1,000 PIMS Darin Kimble, or as I’ll refer to him from here on out, “Kimby”, cemented himself as one of
the worst dudes to ever lace them up. From the humble rinks of Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada to the legendary barns of NHL franchises such as the St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, and the Chicago Blackhawks, Kimby went full-bore no matter where he was, or how young he was. He came into the NHL guns blazing! With an illustrious career that spanned from 1988 to 2002, Kimby remains a fan favorite on his podcast appearances, hilarious twitter account, and especially on “The Blues NHL Podcast” which he co-hosts with Jamie Rivers. He preaches the good word of physical play and policing yourself on the ice.

He’s from the school of thought that this style of play should still be taught to young hockey players and I’d have to agree. The ever humble and funny Kimble is always quick with tweets like he was with his punches in his playing days. I asked him some of his favorite fights from his day and he replied, “You know the lightweights, guys like Jay Miller, John Kordic, Troy Crowder, Dave Brown, and Marc Laforge.” Yeah Darin, the lightweights! You can tell in the interview how much he loved playing hockey and really enjoyed his career. If you’re reading this and any of those names slip your mind, I suggest you head the homepage of Hockey Fights and start clicking away!

Kimby had the hair, the talent, the attitude, and the fists. He’s so beloved by the city and fans of St. Louis that O’Fallon brewery named a damn beer after him! Not many men went Tony Twist twice in a game. As I said, Kimble is “Old School Hockey.” His stories made me laugh, cringe with fear, and get pumped beyond belief. Tune in to hear this legend tell the tales of fighting with a broken nose, making a living in hockey, and explain what it took to be an NHL enforcer. After you listen to this episode, if you
don’t already know, you’ll realize why people love “Old School Hockey”
