Ray Emery & Flyers Take Frustration Out on Caps

When the Washington Capitals were up 5-0 on the Philadelphia Flyers, Steve Downie went after Aaron Volpatti after Volpatti dumped Matt Read to the ice. Downie took some punches, picked up an instigator penalty and left the game injured for his trouble.

After the Caps put away their seventh goal of the night on a helmet-less Ray Emery*, Wayne Simmonds came out hitting everything, quickly grabbing Tom Wilson and throwing punches.

Emery wasted no time skating down the ice and challenging Braden Holtby. It was apparent Holtby had no interest in dropping his glove & blocker, but Emery didn't give him a choice. With the linesmen busy breaking up Simmonds and Wilson, and trying to keep some peace, Emery had the opportunity to pound on Holtby a la Dan Cloutier on Tommy Salo (video). This was Emery's ninth fighting major in the pros. Holtby has only one other recorded FM from 2008 in the WHL.
