Patrick Bordeleau vs Luke Gazdic, Dec 5, 2013

Two of the best up-and-coming fighters in the NHL slugged it out in Edmonton on Thursday night. The Oilers' Luke Gazdic challenged Colorado Avalanche heavyweight Patrick Bordeleau in the third period. Bordeleau opened the fight with a flurry of rights on Gazdic, but didn't cause much damage. Gazdic gained composure and threw a bomb that landed flush on Bordeleau's face. Bordeleau briefly went to his knees before admirably getting back up to continue the fight. However, Bordeleau didn't manage to throw another punch, as Gazdic took over the fight and landed several more punches before the linesmen separated them.

It was a surprising TKO win for Gazdic — an upset of sorts — over Bordeleau, who had only suffered one loss in his previous 13 NHL fights. Currently, Bordeleau is arguably the #2 heavyweight in the NHL, behind Calgary's Brian McGrattan. Gazdic's impressive showing certainly moved the Edmonton rookie further up the food chain.

This was Gazdic and Bordeleau's fourth fight with each other in their careers, and their first in the NHL.
