More Than Just Fighting for Paul Bissonnette

Phoenix Coyotes’ Paul Bissonnette looks to expand his role

He’s long been marketed as a fourth-line fighter with minimal responsibility. But in a limited body of work this season, Bissonnette has certainly done his best to prove he can be more than that given the chance.

“Looking forward, I think I can be an everyday forward,” he said.

Despite averaging only 4:30 of ice time per game, Bissonnette already has posted a career-high in points (eight). In spurts, he’s formed part of an extremely effective line with Kyle Chipchura and Jeff Halpern.

“He’s done a real good job of making sure he’s a player in the game,” coach Dave Tippett said. “We’ve had some good talks. I think he recognizes at some point, the fighting part of the game is going to go down, and he has to make sure he contributes in other ways, and he’s done that for us this year.”
