Moose Jaw Warriors’ Jett Woo Named WHL Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Jett Woo has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 9, 2018.
Woo, who was selected in the second round, 37th overall, by the Vancouver Canucks at the 2018 NHL Draft, posted seven points (1G-6A) in three games this week as the Warriors continued their ascent up the East Division standings, sitting third in the competitive division.
At home Wednesday in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers, Woo recorded the first four-point game of his WHL career, posting a goal and three assists. Woo scored Moose Jaw’s first goal, then assisted on the Warriors’ next three goals in the contest. His efforts earned him first star honours for the game and second star honours for the evening across the league.
Friday in Saskatoon, Woo recorded a pair of primary assists as the Warriors erased a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 against the Saskatoon Blades. Woo’s helpers came on his team’s first two goals, helping to tie up the game before they later secured the victory. Saturday, Woo closed out his week with a single assist as the Warriors dropped a 5-3 result to the Blades at Mosaic Place.
The productive week extended Woo’s point streak to eight games, with 13 points (3G-10A) in that span. Woo’s eight-game point streak is also a career-high total, surpassing a six-game point streak he had during the 2017-18 WHL Regular Season. Overall, Woo has recorded 23 points (5G-18A) in 24 games this season, nearly surpassing his career-high 25 points (9G-16A) in 44 games last season.
The 6-foot-0, 203-pound product of Winnipeg, Man. was originally selected in the first round, fourth overall, by the Warriors in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. Since then, Woo has appeared in 140 WHL regular season games, posting 71 points (19G-52A), including four power-play goals and three game-winning goals. Additionally, Woo has added seven points (2G-5A) in 26 WHL playoff games.
