Luke Gazdic vs Brian McGrattan, Nov 16, 2013
For the second week in a row, the Calgary Flames' Brian McGrattan is featured in our Fight of the Week. In Saturday night's game between Alberta rivals Calgary and Edmonton, McGrattan gave the Oilers' young, up-and-coming heavyweight Luke Gazdic the opportunity to prove himself against arguably the toughest heavyweight in the NHL. After a brief square off near center ice, McGrattan landed the first punch of what turned into a marathon fight. In hockey's version of a 12-rounder, McGrattan threw a continuous combination of left jabs and right hooks. Gazdic fought well defensively, preventing many of McGrattan's punches from landing flush, while sneaking in rights of his own. Both fighters finished the scrap on their feet, and McGrattan gave Gazdic a pat on the head before they parted, a show of respect for a great bout. Our voting page overwhelmingly scored the fight a win for McGrattan, but the concensus gives Gazdic credit for an impressive showing.
