Joe Thornton Reflects on His Time in Boston

A lot has changed in 17 years since Joe Thornton was drafted first overall by the Boston Bruins in 1997. That includes his hair. The San Jose Sharks center returned to TD Garden on a special night Tuesday, as NESN celebrated the 30th anniversary of its first year on air in 1984. To commemorate the occasion, Thornton caught up with Tom Caron, who interviewed the forward for the first time on NESN before the 1997 NHL draft. The two reminisced about everything from Thornton’s experiences under five different head coaches in Boston to his debatable wardrobe choice for their original 1997 interview.
