Fighting, Literally, for a Roster Spot

Fighting for a job at Habs’ rookie camp

At rookie camp, a fight will earn you a penalty shot.

It’s weird.

It was clear Tuesday in Brossard when the team wearing white Canadiens jerseys started to pull away from the team wearing red Canadiens jerseys that something was about to go down.

With a few minutes to go in a 5-0 rout for Team Red, just as the refs whistled the play dead, Jack Nevins slashed at Bokondji Imama. Nevins, with Team Red, had been looking for a little extracurricular action during his entire shift and it appeared he’d found a willing partner in Imama — a 220-pound hometown kid with 15 points and 101 penalty minutes in 59 games during his last season in junior hockey with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
