Dropping The Gloves Episode 283: Reviewing the Svechnikov/Couturier Signings + Dallas Stars Preview

The workweek is over, and it’s time to head into the weekend!

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to another Friday edition of Dropping The Gloves with John and Tim. The season is edging closer and closer, which is crazy to think. It seems like the Tampa Bay Lightning were lifting Lord Stanley for the second year in a row only yesterday.

In today’s news, a couple of big-name restricted free agents signed new contracts with their organizations.

First off, we have Carolina Hurricanes Russian forward Andrei Svechnikov. Svechnikov was a former second overall pick by the Hurricanes back in 2018. Yesterday, he signed an eight-year deal to stay in Carolina worth $62 million. On the show, John and Tim had mixed reviews about the deal. Svechnikov hasn’t established himself as an elite score in the NHL throughout a full 82 game season. However, he has shown a lot of promise, making the deal look great in the long run. Be sure to tweet at us and let us know what you think.

The other deal saw Sean Couturier sign an identical deal. The only difference being that Couturier is a 28-year-old forward while Svechnikov is only 21. Right now, the Philadelphia forward is worth that cap hit, but the question is will he be when he’s in his mid-30s?

And finally, the Dallas Stars are an interesting team heading into next season. John and Tim spoke about their young core, Pavelski still surging at 37, a goalie carousel, and what to expect from Tyler Seguin. Also, Tim briefly touched on the recent news on Tuukka Rask and what his future looks like.

Episode 283 is now available across all podcasting platforms. Be sure to leave us a review, as your feedback is crucial to our development as a show.

Thanks for listening!
