Dropping The Gloves Episode 265: Suter/Parise Bought Out, Keith Traded + Crazy Trade Rumors

While the Tampa Bay lightning are out celebrating their third Stanley Cup in franchise history, the rest of the league are out making moves ahead of the Seattle Kraken’s expansion draft. A few veterans careers were turned upsides the past few days, and John and Tim are here to discuss those with you.

We’ll start with John’s former team, the Minnesota Wild. They’ve been in the headlines recently due to their contract negotiations with Kirill Kaprizov; however, now it’s for a whole different reason. Everyone knew that they wanted to protect Matt Dumba but couldn’t because of Ryan Suter’s no-movement clause. Well, they resolved that issue yesterday by buying out the veteran defender. Not only did they buy him out but also his good friend Zach Parise. Tim reads a story from Michael Russo explaining how it all went down, and it does not look good if you’re the Minnesota Wild. The question is now, where will they go? Parise and Suter signed in Minnesota because they wanted to finish their careers together. Will that be the case for their next deal? John threw one name out there that could be a fit for Suter. The Tampa Bay Lightning.

Another deal that went down was Duncan Keith moving from the Chicago Blackhawks for Caleb Jones and a third-round pick in 2022. This trade had John, and Tim stumped as it didn’t make much sense for Edmonton to take on all that cap. However, the Blackhawks are now in the market for Jones’ brother Seth on the flip side. Yesterday, the Columbus Blue Jackets wanted a high return for Jones, which includes Kirby Dach. John thinks the asking price is ridiculous and says that he wouldn’t even move Dach for Jones one for one.

Check out all of that and more on episode 265 of the Dropping The Gloves podcast with John Scott.
