Dropping The Gloves Episode 257: Interview with Shane Hnidy, VGK Broadcaster

Episode 257 of Dropping The Gloves with John Scott switched focus from the Montreal Canadiens to Vegas Golden Knights. After being joined by Sportsnet’s Eric Engel on Wednesday, John and Tim welcomed former NHLer and current Golden Knights broadcaster Shane Hnidy to the show.

The majority of talk around this Golden Knights team has been goaltending. Ever since Peter DeBoer started Robin Lehner for game four – which he won – the debate has continued as to who starts in goal. After Marc-Andre Fleury was given the crease back for game five, it looks like Vegas are going back with Lehner for their do or die game six in Montreal. Hnidy didn’t seem as concerned as everyone else about this. It’s a strategy that they’ve been doing all season, and it’s worked for them.

Hnidy talked about how well Montreal has eliminated the style of play Vegas wants to play and the Golden Knights unwillingness to adapt. He also expressed how the biggest concern should be that Vegas can’t put the puck in the net. Their top six has been awfully quiet through six games combining for one goal and ten points.

Of course, with there being a former Bruin on the show, Tim snuck in a quick B’s question about the 2010-11 Stanley Cup winner and the recent anniversary that passed.
