Dropping The Gloves Episode 234: The Art of the “Prove It” Deal
John and Tim are back after the weekend with episode 234 of the Dropping The Gloves podcast.
The main subject of today’s show is an evaluation of the players who took a one-year deal last summer, or as John likes to call them, a “Prove It Deal”. The five players they talked about were Erik Haula (Nashville Predators), Tyson Barrie (Edmonton Oilers), Mike Hoffman (St Louis Blues), Anthony Duclair (Flordia Panthers) and Taylor Hall (signed with Buffalo now with Boston).
The two mutually agreed that Tyson Barrie has had a successful “Prove It Deal” with the Oilers and that he’s bound to make some money this offseason. The remaining four didn’t think so highly off. Hall is another interesting one, however, since he has now been moved out of Buffalo. John did go on to say that he stands by his comments about Hall going to Edmonton.
They discussed briefly the idea of asking permission to wear somebodies number when you join a new team. John was recently on a Buffalo podcast where that topic was brought it up.
Finally, do you think Nashville not making any moves at the deadline was a bad idea? John and Tim do. For a team that’s barely in a playoff spot, it was bold of them not to go out and go some picks for their upcoming UFA’s. Especially with their “top players” Matt Duchene and Ryan Johansen playing so poorly.
