A Preseason Like We Remember

The NHL lockout last year wiped out the preseason. Teams only played intraconference games — until the Stanley Cup Finals.

The 2011-12 preseason was tame in comparison to seasons before it. All the numbers were lower than in years past.

This September we saw players fighting for their jobs, teams playing teams they hadn’t in 18+ months. What we had is a regular preseason. Maybe still a little tame, but a couple of big events — and some new rules — made this one stand out.
